South Wales Branch

South Wales Branch of the Miniature AFV Association has meetings on the first Monday of each month (on the second Monday if the first one is a Bank Holiday) at St. John’s Church Hall, Rachel Close, Danescourt, Cardiff, CF5 2SH from 8pm to 10pm.  There is plenty of free parking available and the venue is served by a number of Cardiff Bus routes.

Our meetings always cover a wide range of topics and are very open and informal.  Many of us bring along the latest model we’re working on, or the latest kits or books we’ve bought, and we regularly pick each others’ brains for ideas on future models or projects.  There’s always plenty of advice, and helpful tips are always on hand over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits.  We currently have 12 active members in the Branch with a wide mix of model making experience and interests from WWI to present day, and in a variety of scales from 1/35th down to 1/152nd

The Branch attends a number of model shows, including On Tracks in Folkestone, IPMS shows at RAF Cosford, and Salisbury, and two shows at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton.  For many of us the highlight of the year is The MAFVA Nationals in June at The Imperial War Museum in Duxford.

Each year we also have an Open Meeting on a Sunday in the autumn at our regular venue in lieu of our normal Monday meeting where we invite local modelling groups to join us in displaying a selection of our work.

The South Wales Branch also produces its own quarterly newsletter, The Dragon.  This began in 1985 and covers a wide variety of topics from WWI to the present day, reflecting the interests of the South Wales Branch members and those of other contributors from across the UK and Europe.  An index of articles published can be found in the Resources pages of the MAFVA website.

We always welcome anyone new to the hobby.  If you'd like to join our Branch please contact:-
